SHEFFIELD, MA — The deaths of five people found in a house fire in Western Massachusetts are being investigated as a murder-suicide.

Berkshire County District Attorney Andrea Harrington said they believe Luke Karpinski, 41, killed his wife, Justine Wilbur, 41, and their three young children - a 3-year-old and 7-year-old twins.

The bodies of all five were found Wednesday morning at 1343 Home Road in Sheffiled. Harrington declined to give many details, including what caused the fire or how the victims are believed to have died.

Initial reports said there was only one victim. Harrington said Wilbur was found on the first floor and the four others were found upstairs.

Two dogs were also found dead in the house.

Autopsies are expected to determine the cause of death.

It is the second tragedy small town of Sheffield has suffered in a week. Samya Stumo, a 24-year-old who grew up in Sheffield, died in an Ethiopian Airlines crash that killed 157 over the weekend.
