WORCESTER, MA — Worcester police became engaged in a standoff with two men Sunday night following a shooting at a home in the Beaver Brook area.

The incident began just after 8:30 p.m. when police responded to a home along Lawnfair Street for a report of a shooting. Police found a man shot in the stomach there, and he was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police discovered that the shooting suspect was inside a nearby home with a woman. After negotiations, the shooting suspect, Andrew Abilhomme, 21, agreed to release the woman. He then surrendered to police. He was later charged with assault to murder, use of a gun during a felony, and multiple weapons charges.

After Abilhomme surrendered, police entered the home to check for other people. That's when Damien Ellslager, 35, charged at the officers and shouted, "I'm going to kill you!" according to Worcester police.

Ellslager was arrested and charged with assault on a police officer, disturbing the peace, resisting, and interfering with a police officer.
