Man Who Stabbed Worcester Police Dog To Be Mentally Evaluated
The man stabbed the dog several times in the head with a screwdriver.

WORCESTER, MA — While a Worcester police dog recovers from a brutal stabbing that occurred this weekend, the man who carried out the stabbing will be evaluated at Bridgewater State Hospital. A judge ordered the man be evaluated to determine if he's fit to stand trial, the Worcester Telegram reported.
The incident happened on Saturday when officers were called to Foster Street around 9:30 a.m. for reports of a man with a knife, threatening to stab bus drivers and set them on fire. The Telegram identified the man Joseph M. Perez, 41, of Worcester. When police got to the scene, Perez was hiding in the bushes.
According to Worcester police, the man was asked several times to come out of the bushes, and warned that K9 Beebs would be used to flush him out if he refused. When he didn't answer, the officers sent Beebs in, which is when the stabbing happened.
Beebs suffered a laceration to his mouth and several wounds to his head with swelling but is expected to recover from his injuries. Beebs has been with the department for over two years as a K9 officer.
