WEBSTER, MA — A large water monitor lizard has been on the loose in Webster since Friday. It is 5 feet long and was last seen near Blueberry Lane and Upper Gore.

Authorities say it is an unlicensed pet because it's illegal to own this type of lizard in Massachusetts.

Water monitors are known to travel, climb trees and find water, according to Webster Animal Control. They don’t typically attack humans or pets, but they recommend not approaching the animal.

If you spot the reptile, contact animal control or police as soon as possible.
