Chicopee Murder-Suicide: 15-Year-Old Stabs Mother, Shoots Self, Says DA

A 15-year-old boy stabbed his mother to death and then shot himself, say officials. The boy's grandfather alerted police.

CHICOPEE, MA — A teenager and his mother are dead after the 15-year-old stabbed his mom and shot himself, authorities said.

Mary Danehy, 50, of Chicopee, suffered multiple stab wounds that appear to have caused her death, according to the Hampden District Attorney. Joshua Guyette, 15, appears to have died from a single gunshot wound, and a firearm was recovered near his body.

Responding to a medical alert in the unit block of Lauzier Terrace, the Chicopee Fire Department arrived shortly before 1 p.m. and was met out front by John Danehy, Mary Danehy's father and Guyette's grandfather. John Danehy told medics that he heard a disturbance in the home, including a gunshot. The first responders called police to the residence.

Mary Danehy and Guyette had, according to investigators, dealt with a school resource officer earlier that day, and Mary Danehy removed her son from the school a the request of administrators due to behavioral issues.

The incident is still under investigation.

District Attorney Anthony Gulluni expressed his sympathy to the "families affected by this tragic incident." Police Chief William Jebb also offered condolences and recognized Capt. Lonny Dakin and Lt. Holly Davis for their professionalism and integrity.
