Memorial Fund Established for Fallen Officer

Ronald Tarentino, a Tewksbury native and veteran of the Leicester and Auburn police departments, was fatally shot over the weekend.

AUBURN, MA - The Auburn Police Department has established a memorial fund in memory of Officer Ronald Tarentino for his wife and children.

Tarentino, a Tewksbury native and a graduate of Tewksbury Memorial High School's Class of 1991, and veteran of the Leicester and Auburn Police Departments, was fatally shot over the weekend during a traffic stop in Auburn. The suspect in Tarentino's shooting, identified as Jorge Zambrano, 35, of Worcester, was killed following a standoff in Oxford, just south of Auburn, late Sunday afternoon.

"Words can not adequately express our department's appreciation for the outpouring of support that we have received after the tragic loss of Officer Tarentino," Auburn Police posted Monday morning. "Our department has set up a Memorial Fund in the memory of Officer Tarentino for his wife and children."
