Monday 7: What To Know The Week Of Aug. 23-29
Look ahead to 7 things happening this week, including a historic project in Wayland, a school tradition in Natick and more.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — Welcome to the Aug. 22 edition of Monday Manual, where we highlight important events coming up during the week (plus a local fact) in seven Patch communities between Framingham and Worcester.
This week we're starting in Framingham, which is home to the historic Lloyd's Diner, whose building actually spent most of its years in another town. The diner was originally called Whit's and was located in Orange after it rolled off the assembly line at the Worcester Lunch Car Company in 1942. It was moved to Framingham in the early 1990s.
1) Framingham
Election season is really (really) here. The League of Women Voters of Framingham on Saturday will host a forum featuring the three mayoral candidates (incumbent Yvonne Spicer, Charlie Sisitsky and Carlos Valadares) and four candidates in the open District 7 City Council race.
2) Sudbury
Got something to say about local government? Members of the Sudbury Select Board on Friday will host office hours (via Zoom), where residents can speak to elected officials about issues around town.
3) Worcester
The 2021 Taste of Shrewsbury Street festival will be held on Tuesday night featuring music and special events at restaurants along the one-mile strip. About 40 restaurants are participating in this year's event.
4) Wayland
Do you have an eye for detail and enjoy history? The Wayland Free Public Library is searching for volunteers to transcribe handwritten Wayland Library Trustee Records from 1870 to 1945. The library is looking for up to 20 people to work on some 700 pages of records.
5) Natick
The beginning of the school year is only about two weeks away. In Natick, returning and incoming high schoolers will get a taste of the new year at Red Hawk Fest 2021. The annual pre-return festival run by the school district and Natick police features food, games and music.
6) Milford
The Select Board and the School Committee will meet together on Monday to pick a new school board member. Member James Ligor resigned his post at the end of July to take a new job in the district. The new member will get a chance to run for a full term in the spring.
7) Marlborough
The City Council on Monday will hold a vote on granting a special permit to Connecticut-based Waypoint Residential to building an almost 200-unit residential building at 339 Boston Post Road. The Council's four-member Urban Affairs Committee has voted to deny the permit. Approval would require a two-thirds majority vote of the full 11-member Council.
