A Mystery 1980s Time Capsule Will Be Opened Sunday In Worcester
The local Lions Club buried the time capsule in 1982. No one knows what the club members put in it.

WORCESTER, MA — A VHS copy of the movie "Poltergeist," a cassette featuring Survivor's hit song "Eye of the Tiger," or maybe a photo of the brand-new Worcester Centrum? No one really knows what to expect.
A time capsule buried in November 1982 by the Worcester Lions Club will be cracked open Sunday at the EcoTarium Museum, and its contents are a total mystery to people living today.
“No one at the museum knows what is in the time capsule," EcoTarium CEO Noreen Smith said in a news release. "We are excited to take a peek into the past.”
Whatever's inside, the items in the capsule will probably focus on local events and people of the era — items like news clippings, photos, drawing and letters from people of the past.
"The articles people put into time capsules are things that they are familiar with at the time but have long since forgotten. We come back and the big question is, ‘What was it like 40 years ago?’" central Massachusetts Lions Club district governor Marianna Riemer said.
Everyone is invited to partake in solving the mystery. The time capsule opening will take place Sunday at 11 a.m. at the EcoTarium's sundial. The museum is located at 222 Harrington Way, Worcester.
