WORCESTER, MA — If you get an offer to cut your Spectrum bill in half for a nominal fee, it's probably too good to be true.

The Worcester County District Attorney is warning local Spectrum customers about a new scheme where scammers offer a two-year, 50 percent off discount if you pay a one-time $99 fee.

"It sounds convincing, but it's not a valid offer from Spectrum," the DA's office said in a bulletin. "Spectrum will never offer a discounted rate for a fee."

The offers have been sent to local customers via email, text message and phone call, according to the DA's office.

Spectrum provides cable, internet and phone service to a handful of Worcester County communities, including Worcester, Auburn, Holden, the Brookfields, Spencer, West Boylston, Uxbridge, Upton, Southbridge and Oxford.
