Manhole Explodes In Worcester, No Injuries Reported
National Grid is investigating the explosion, according to 7 News Boston.
WORCESTER, MA — Firefighters were seen on Southbridge Street in Worcester Wednesday afternoon after a manhole explosion was reported.
Massachusetts Energy National Grid was headed to the scene of the explosion to investigate its cause, according to a tweet from 7 News Boston reporter Steve Cooper.
The news outlet later reported the explosion sent the manhole cover flying into the air, propelled by fire and smoke from the manhole itself. The roadway was temporarily closed, but no nearby residents or businesses were evacuated.
Worcester fire officials did not immediately respond to a request for more information.
