She helped a badly injured motorcyclist back in August 2023.

WORCESTER, MA — A nurse who stopped to help after a serious motorcycle crash in Worcester has been honored by the Worcester Police Department.
Heather Mercandate received a Chief of Police Citation during the department's 2026 Exemplary Service Awards after she helped a badly injured motorcyclist near Rolling Oaks and Blithewood on Aug. 11, 2023, Worcester police said Tuesday.
Mercandate was passing by after the crash when she stopped to assist the motorcyclist, who had suffered a compound leg fracture, according to police.
The department said her willingness to provide medical help to a stranger reflected the community service recognized by the award.
The Chief of Police Citation may be given to a citizen, sworn officer or non-sworn department member for commendable action taken to assist law enforcement or for exemplary community service related to law enforcement.
The department said the 2026 awards recognized officers and civilians who went beyond normal expectations during emergency situations over the past five years.
