The man was a target in a heroin trafficking investigation. Police arrested him at McDonald's and then found more drugs at the Quality Inn.

WORCESTER, MA — A man and woman are facing drug charges after Worcester police

On Thursday, Feb. 16, around 10 a.m., police spotted a red Toyota Rav4 in the parking lot of McDonald's on Lincoln Street, and knew prior that the vehicle was involved in heroin distribution in the city. They saw Andres Abreu of Worcester behind the wheel, and passenger Carol Delaney, 56, Worcester, in the car. Abreu had been the target of this investigation, according to police.

Police watched the SUV when a grey Infiniti pulled into the lot right next to it. A woman, later identified as Gina Riani, 31, Worcester, got out of the driver's seat of the Infiniti and into the back seat of the Rav4. After about 30 seconds, Riani got out, got back in her car and left the lot.

Members of the Vice Squad stopped the Infiniti a short distance away. Riani attempted to pull away from officers at the scene and kicked one of the officers in the leg, said the report, but officers got her into handcuffs. They found four knotted bags of heroin on her.

At the same time, other officers followed the Rav4 to the Santander bank parking lot on Lincoln Street. Officers recovered two bags of heroin and $1,500 from Abreu, and he was arrested.

Officers got additional information that Abreu may be storing additional heroin at a hotel room located at 50 Oriol Drive (the Quality Inn and Suites). Police got a search warrant, and found a small lock box in the hotel room with 90 grams of heroin in it.

Abreu is being charged with Distribution of a Class A Substance (Subsequent Offense), Possession of a Class A Substance w/ the Intent to Distribute, and Trafficking in Class a 36-99 grams. Riani is being charged with Possession of a Class A Substance and Resisting Arrest.
