Police Seek Public's Help in Locating Man Who Allegedly Broke Into Home While Woman Slept

A man allegedly broke into a home while the homeowner was asleep, and was awoken by her dogs barking.

WORCESTER, MA—Police are looking for a man who is suspected of breaking into a home while a woman was sleeping, and jumping out the window when her dogs barked and she woke up.

On Wednesday, May 24, at approximately 12:20 p.m., Worcester police responded to a Sherer Trail home for a break-in progress.

The victim, a 42-year-old woman, said that she was sleeping in the living room when her dogs' barking woke her. She got up and went to check to see if a relative was in another room, and knocked on the door when an unknown man opened the door. The man slammed the door shut, and she opened it again and he allegedly jumped out the second floor bedroom and fled into the woods.

Several police units arrived at the scene and searched the area. A Massachusetts State Police K-9 unit arrived at the scene to assist. They were unable to find the suspect.

Officers think the suspect got into the house through an unlocked first floor window. The suspect was described as a white male, late teens or early twenties, medium build, approximately 5’8” tall, dark hair wearing dark clothing.
