WORCESTER, MA — Presidents Day weekend kicks off the first public school break of 2020, but the holiday on Monday will also mean other closures and changed schedules.

Presidents Day was established in 1885 to honor George Washington, and is a three-day weekend for many. But it also means that services such as the U.S. Post Office, banks and public transit will be closed or operating on a weekend schedule.

Here's a look at what's open and closed this Monday for Presidents Day in the Worcester area:

  • Retail stores: Open
  • Liquor stores: Open
  • Supermarkets: Open
  • Convenience stores: Open
  • Taverns, bars: Open
  • Banks: Closed
  • Stock market: Closed
  • Municipal, state, federal offices: Closed
  • Libraries: Closed
  • Schools: Closed
  • Mail: Post offices closed, no regular delivery
  • MBTA: Saturday schedule
  • WRTA: All buses on Saturday schedule, Route 30 on a modified Saturday schedule. Routes 29, 33, 42, and community shuttles on weekday schedule.
  • Trash Collection: Delayed by one day
