WORCESTER, MA — Talk show host Rachel Ray will feature Worcester firefighters during a segment Monday morning remembering the 1999 cold storage fire, where six Worcester firefighters died.
Worcester firefighters Jerry Lucey and Dan Spencer will talk to Ray about the fire. They will be joined by Worcester native and comedian Denis Leary, whose nonprofit Leary Firefighters Foundation has produced a six-part documentary about the fire. Lucey's father, Jeremiah, and Spencer's father, Lt. Thomas Spencer, both died in the cold storage fire.
The 20-year anniversary of the fire was on Dec. 4. Three other Worcester firefighters have died since then, including Christopher Roy and Jason Menard, who both died within the last year.
The Rachel Ray episode airs at 11 a.m. on Dec. 23 on NBC Boston, channel 36.
