Bands of strong storms with hail, lightning and high winds will likely strike Thursday afternoon.

WORCESTER, MA — If the heat wasn't bad enough, now we're in for a round of severe thunderstorms.

The National Weather Service on Thursday morning issued a severe thunderstorm watch for all of Worcester County. The storms will swing across the state beginning around noon, possibly bringing hail, lighting and thunder and high winds up to 75 mph, the weather service said.

The severe thunderstorm watch will be in effect between noon and 8 p.m. Thursday. The highest chance for severe weather will be between 3 and 7 p.m., according to forecasts.

Thursday's storms will usher in a slight weather change. Temperatures will remain at or above 90 degrees through Sunday, but humidity levels will start to drop by Friday, according to the weather service.

Thursday's storm watch covers a large part of Massachusetts from the New York border east through Worcester, Middlesex and Essex counties.
