WORCESTER, MA — A 39-year-old man was seriously wounded Sunday morning after a shooting in the Main South neighborhood, police said.

Around 10 a.m., a Worcester officer was on patrol near Main and King streets when he heard what sounded like gunshots. The officer found the wounded man nearby, and police provided first aid until an ambulance arrived.

Worcester police did not release any further details about the incident.

Police also responded to two armed robberies early Sunday morning that ended in a SWAT intervention at a Providence Street apartment.

The first happened around 2:45 a.m. along Lafayette Street when two men pistol-whipped a woman and stole her cell phone. Minutes later, police responded to near Grafton and Plantation streets where a man told officers two men jumped out of an SUV and robbed him at gunpoint.

After that incident, an officer spotted an SUV that matched the description of the one involved in the Rice Square robbery. When the officer pulled the vehicle over, one man jumped out and ran.

Two people in the vehicle, Wilberto Rivera, 40, of Worcester, and Theresa Venuti, 42, of North Oxford, were both arrested on charges of armed robbery.

Police said that the third suspect, Raheen Minton-Delgado, 29, broke into an apartment along Providence Street to hide from police. Hostage negotiators and the SWAT team responded and were able to get five people in the apartment out safely.

Minton-Delgado was found barricaded in a bedroom. He was arrested and charged with armed robbery, home invasion, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He also had an outstanding warrant from Fitchburg, police said.
