WORCESTER, MA — The smell of smoked meats will soon disappear from Worcester's Canal District.

The longtime barbecue spot Smokestack Urban BBQ will close on Nov. 19, the latest in a series of restaurant closures along Green Street near the almost brand new Polar Park.

"It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing our last day of service will be Nov. 19," the restaurant posted Wednesday evening on social media. "We've had an incredible run here in the Canal District and would like to thank all our great customers and amazing staff! Come on in before we close and enjoy some great 'cue."

Smokestack joins Buck's Whiskey and Burger Bar (closing Nov. 20) and the Hangover Pub and Broth, shut by joint owner Michael Arrastia in September.

Smokestack owner Richard Romaine opened the barbecue restaurant along Harding Street in 2010 before moving it to the corner of Green and Ash streets in 2014. He also owns Romaine's Kitchen and Bar in Northborough and 'Olo Pizza along Millbrook Street in Worcester.

It's unclear what might happen to the Smokestack site. Two Rhode Island restaurateurs are planning to open The Blackstone Herbs and Martini Bar in the former Hangover Pub spot, and Buck's owner Nick Panarelli said new owners are taking over his spot in 2023.
