Southbridge Man Killed In 3-Car Crash In Rhode Island

A man is dead, and several were injured, after a three-car crash over the weekend.

WORCESTER COUNTY, MA — A Southbridge man is dead after a crash in Rhode Island over the weekend.

Around 1:36 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29, police responded to a three-car crash on Route 101 in Foster, RI.

Investigators found that James E. Beattie, 39, Reynolds Street, Danielson, CT, was driving west on Route 101 when he passed the intersection of Boss Road and Pray Hill Road and swerved into the eastbound lane and struck a Dodge Avenger, driven by Orlando Colon, 40, Plimpton Street, Southbridge, MA.

A third vehicle, a Toyota Scion, being operated by William Greenleaf, age 26, of Horse Hill Road, Danielson, Connecticut, was behind Colon and was struck by the Dodge Avenger as it spun off of hitting Beattie's Ford Focus.

Colon was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he was later died from his injuries.

Beattie and his passenger, Kristina M. Arnone, age 38, of Farnum Road, Warwick, RI, were also transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries. Greenleaf and his passenger, Amber Blinkhorn, 21, of Woodland Road, Moosup, CT, were also transported to Rhode Island Hospital with minor injuries.

Five rescues from Foster, Scituate, and Smithfield responded to the scene. The road was closed for approximately two hours. The crash remains under investigation.
