Standoff In Worcester's Bell Hill Ends In Arrest On Weapons Charge

Police closed off Kendall Street Wednesday morning, and hostage negotiators responded to the scene.

WORCESTER, MA — Worcester police arrested a 50-year-old man on weapons charges Wednesday following a hours-long standoff in the Bell Hill neighborhood.

Police went to an East Kendall Street home around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday with a warrant to arrest the man. When police knocked on his door, he refused to open it, police said.

Police negotiators and a SWAT team responded because police believed the man had a rifle in his home. The negotiators briefly spoke to the man by phone, but he hung up on them, police said.

After about two hours, police entered the man's apartment, and a K9 found the man reportedly hiding in a closet. He was arrested on charges including four counts of unlawful possession of a gun, intimidating a witness and being a level 3 armed career criminal.
