State Trooper Pulled From Flaming Cruiser After Avoiding Deer
The trooper remains hospitalized after swerving to avoid a deer overnight on the highway.

HATFIELD, MA — A State Trooper had to be pulled out of his flaming cruiser after he he swerved to avoid a deer on Route 91, police said. The 28-year-old trooper, who isn't being identified, was released from Bay State Medical Center in Springfield this afternoon.
Police said the trooper was responding to a call for a disabled vehicle on the highway around 1:30 a.m. when a deer ran in front of his cruiser. The trooper swerved and crashed over the guardrail.
A nearby trooper saw the crash and pulled the injured one out of his cruiser, which had become engulfed in flames.

I-91 North was closed for about three hours.
The deer may have taken a glancing blow, but it appears it was able to run away.
