Stolen Car From Worcester Pops Up In Westborough After B&E Report

The car was found on the Tufts University campus in Grafton.

WESTBOROUGH, MA — Westborough police charged two Worcester men with stealing a car, among other charges, after a call led them to a stolen car in Grafton. A man called police on Thursday after surveillance video outside his home on Arch Street showed two youths trying to break into the cars in his driveway, according to police.

When officers got to the home, they found the two cars with the doors open and no one around, according to police. Soon after, police said a Volvo was seen speeding toward them on Glen Street, almost hitting the police cruisers head-on.

The officers began a chase of the Volvo along Route 30 toward Tufts University campus but lost the car over a hill in the road, police said. When the officer arrived in the area where he had last observed the Volvo, he saw the car on the lawn of Tufts University’s campus. The passenger’s side door was open and there was no one inside, according to police.

When the officer ran the plates, he found it had been stolen from Worcester.

A search in Grafton started and included Westborough Police Department, Grafton Police Department, Millbury Police Department, Tufts University Police Department, Oxford Police Department and the Department of Corrections and Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council.

Two men were arrested — Devon Smith, 21, of Worcester and Edward Gale, 19, of Worcester. A third suspect still has not been found.
