Take Caution If Visiting MA State Parks This Weekend: DCR
As Massachusetts hits the coronavirus surge, residents are being asked to take extra precautions during outdoor recreation.

WORCESTER, MA — The state Department of Conservation and Recreation is reminding residents visiting state parks to take extra precautions as Massachusetts heads through the coronavirus surge.
State parks are among the few facilities open during coronavirus, and some parks and trails are getting crowded — especially on nice days. While heading outdoors for fresh air and exercise is acceptable during coronavirus, coming into close contact with other people could be risky, health officials warn.
This week, DCR had to close the parking area at Halibut Point State Park in Rockport due to crowds. On April 2, parking areas at beaches managed by DCR were closed. At the same time, DCR has opened some state parks — including Ashland and Hopkinton — early.

DCR is reminding state residents to limit time outdoors, wear masks in public, and to stay home if you're sick or over age 70. Here's the latest outdoor virus safety guidance from DCR:
- Minimize outdoor recreational time to limit potential exposure to coronavirus
- Stay within solitary or small groups, and avoid gatherings of ten or more people
- Practice social distancing of at least 6 feet
- Use good personal hygiene, like handwashing for at least 20 seconds
- Participate in only non-contact recreational activities
- Leave a park or area should large gatherings begin to build
- Stay home if ill, over 70, and/or part of a vulnerable population
Staying inside is going to be tough this weekend, at least on Saturday. The forecast calls for sun and a high of 64 degrees for the eastern part of Massachusetts on Saturday. Sunday will be rainy and cool in the mid 50s.
