Teens Lead Worcester Police On Wild Chase

Two 17-year-olds in a stolen car smashed into police cruisers and damaged property during the Saturday night chase.

WORCESTER, MA — Worcester police arrested two 17-year-olds on Saturday night after a wild chase that began near Clark University. During the ordeal, two police cars and a crosswalk sign were damaged.

The incident began near 6 p.m. Saturday when an officer noticed a car driving near Elm Park with no headlights on. A check of the license plate showed the car was stolen. When the officer turned on his emergency lights, the car sped off.

Shortly after, another officer saw the same car near Beaver and Main streets. When the officer pulled behind the car, the driver went into reverse and slammed into the cruiser. The stolen car then took off through the neighborhood around University Park headed toward downtown.

Along Gardner Street, the driver slammed into the side of another police car, then drove through a crosswalk sign at Main Street. The chase ended when the driver hit a parked car at Hitchcock Road.

One of the teens ran from the scene but was caught a few blocks away. The other teen stayed with the car, but spit on officers who tried to arrest him. They both were taken to jail on multiple charges, including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, receiving a stolen car, and failure to stop for a stop sign.
