Timeline On Alleged Marcotte Killer Includes Buying Gas

Details are emerging from court documents surrounding the murder of Vanessa Marcotte last summer in Princeton.

PRINCETON, MA—A timeline emerging from court documents shows that the man arrested for killing jogger Vanessa Marcotte last summer bought gasoline close to the time of her disappearance, according to reports.

Marcotte's body was found in the woodsin Princeton not far from her family's home off Brooks Station Road on the evening of Aug. 7, 2016, after Marcotte had gone for a jog while home for a visit. The 27-year-old Boston University grad had been working for Google and living in New York City.

Angelo Colon-Ortiz, 31, was indicted for murder in the slaying of Marcotte in June. He had been arrested in April after his DNA matched the DNA profile that came from samples found on the hands of Marcotte.

The Boston Globe today reported on gaps that have filled in a timeline surrounding the murder of Marcotte.

The timeline starts on 1:15 p.m. that day, when Marcotte stepped out from her parents' house to go for a jog to 1:45 p.m. when a resident saw a man standing outside a dark Ford Escape near where Marcotte's body was found. The Globe reports that within that timeline, Colon-Ortiz purchased $5 of gas at Safeway in Rutland, about seven miles from where the body was found. Marcotte's body was found with her hands and feet burned with gasoline.
