Traffic Alert: Work on Belmont Street, I-290 Postponed
The MassDOT had to reschedule its work because of weather. Take note, drivers.

WORCESTER, MA — –Due to the rain and high winds, the project team for the Belmont Street Bridge Rehabilitation rescheduled the planned detour of I-290 Westbound for Monday night, April 11.
The section of I-290 below the bridge will be closed between 8 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday.
During the closure on Monday, I-290 westbound will be closed and detoured at Exit 18 – Lincoln Street. Motorists will proceed on Lincoln Street, to Major Taylor Boulevard, to MLK Boulevard and reenter I-290 at the MLK Boulevard/East Central Street on-ramp. Traffic will continue to flow over the open section of the Belmont Street Bridge throughout this operation.
On April 5 and 6, the project team placed all the steel for the first section of the new Belmont Street Bridge over I-290 eastbound and approximately half of the girders over I-290’s westbound lanes. It is currently anticipated that Monday night’s operations will complete the placement of steel for phase one of the bridge rehabilitation.
All motorists should allow extra time for their trip and observe all traffic control signage and police details to ensure their own safety and that of project team members at work, said the announcement. All work is weather dependent. If snow impacts operations on any of the nights listed above, it will shift ahead by one day.
