WORCESTER, MA — A 16-year-old who was pulled from Lake Quinsigamond on Memorial Day was in a no swimming area, and was in the water after state lifeguards had left a nearby beach, according to officials.

Worcester police on Tuesday reported that a 16-year-old slipped underwater near 6:30 p.m. on Monday near Regatta Point. Passersby pulled the teen to shore, where first responders treated him before taking him to a Boston hospital for treatment, police said.

The near drowning happened at the North Beach section of Regatta Point, which has "no swimming" signs posted.
