Video: State Police Help Battle Forest Fire In Western MA
The 10-acre fire was burning in a remote area, so a state police helicopter was called in to dump buckets of water on the area.
DEERFIELD, MA — A state police helicopter was called to the scene of a forest fire burning near Deerfield on Thursday afternoon. The 10-acre fire was in such a remote area, firefighters couldn't access it from the ground.
State police used a device called a "Bambi bucket" to scoop water from a pond to drop on the fire. They dumped about 30 buckets before local firefighters were able to get to the scene and contain the fire.
The fire was burning in an area west of I-91 just north of Route 116.

UPDATE Air Wing crews in 2 helps flew numerous sorties, dropping about 30 Bambi buckets of water on the fire, which was encroaching on 2 homes. With their assistance (and that of @MassDCR) ground crews got fire under control. Great team effort! https://t.co/pUUuIgl0hA
