WORCESTER, MA — A group of F-15 fighter jets from the 104th Fighter Wing based near Springfield will fly over local hospitals on Wednesday as a show of unity during the coronavirus crisis.

Flyovers are happening across the country as part of Operation American Resolve, which is a "nationwide salute" to all types of workers responding to the crisis.

"It is a privilege for the men and women of the Massachusetts Air National Guard to provide a thank you to medical personnel, first responders, truck drivers, grocery store personnel and the countless Americans coming together to support the COVID-19 response," 104th Fighter Wing commander Lt. Col. Jay Talbert said in a news release.

The Air Force said that the flyovers are being done as part of training for pilots, so no extra taxpayer money is not being spent on them.

Here's when the jets are flying over the state. Times are approximate — F-15s have a top speed of close to 2,000 miles-per-hour, so the jets will be able to cover these distances pretty quickly.
