Worcester Cafe Receives $250K To Expand Job Training
The business offers vocational training for residents and graduates of the recovery program Hector Reyes House.
WORCESTER, MA — A mission-based restaurant in Worcester is set to expand its efforts with help from a new state grant.
Café Reyes in the heart of the city's Shrewsbury Street dining district was awarded a $250,000 fiscal 2027 Social Enterprise Capital Grant from the Latin American Health Alliance, the restaurant announced on Tuesday.
In addition to serving food, the business offers a vocational training program for residents and graduates of the Hector Reyes House, a bilingual and bicultural residential treatment program for Latino men in recovery.
"This investment will help strengthen and expand Café Reyes, creating more opportunities for workforce development, job training, and economic empowerment in our community," the business wrote in its announcement.
The grant program supports nonprofits that employ community members, expand access to meaningful jobs and advance economic opportunity across the state, Economic Development Secretary Eric Paley wrote in a letter to the business.
"Every cup of coffee, catered event, and community partnership helps advance our mission," Café Reyes wrote in its announcement. "We are excited for what this next chapter means for Worcester and the individuals we serve through employment, training, and recovery-focused opportunities."
