Worcester Councilor Konstantina Lukes To Get City Hall Portrait
The 30-year Worcester City Councilor — and former mayor — is leaving city government at the end of 2019.
WORCESTER, MA — Retiring At-Large Worcester City Councilor Konstantina Lukes will attend her last City Council meeting on Tuesday night. But her presence at City Hall will live on for decades to come.
A portrait of Lukes will be unveiled at City Hall on Wednesday night. Lukes' portrait will hang among all of Worcester's other past mayors. She served in the position between 2007 and 2010.
Lukes was first elected to City Council 30 years ago, which means that she's been reelected 15 times. She also served as a School Committee member for eight years.
The portrait will be unveiled during a ceremony in the Esther Howland Chamber at City Hall at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The unveiling will be followed by a reception at a chamber named for Levi Lincoln — the first person to serve as Worcester mayor between 1848 and 1849.
