WORCESTER, MA - Supporters of Thu Nguyen, the state's first openly nonbinary elected official who recently accused multiple elected officials of LGBTQ+ discriminations, took to Worcester's Tuesday council meeting to express their outrage, according to the Telegram & Gazette.

Multiple residents chanted "shame" at the body and stomped their feet, shaking the Esther Howland Chamber. Councilors later apologized to Nguyen, and members of the LGBTQ+ community voiced their discontent with Councilor Candy Mero-Carlson and Mayor Joseph Petty's statements.

Mero-Carlson was accused of calling Nguyen "it" multiple times, and Petty, who apologized for this incident, misgendered Nguyen a few years ago. In both their statements, they referred to Nguyen's poor attendance record - something their supporters called victim blaming and deflection.
