Worcester EMS Seeks Paramedics For In-Home Care Program

The agency is recruiting paramedics to provide advanced care to medically complex patients in their homes.

WORCESTER, MA — Worcester EMS is recruiting paramedics to provide advanced care to medically complex patients in their homes.

The full-time Mobile Integrated Health position is based at UMass Memorial Medical Center’s University Campus and involves 40 hours of mixed shifts.

Members of the division perform procedures including ultrasound-guided IV placement, feeding-tube insertion and troubleshooting, urinary catheter insertion and port access, Worcester EMS said. Paramedics also work with UMass Memorial physicians and clinics and support the health system’s Hospital at Home program.

The listed hiring range is $29.35 to $39.53 per hour, according to the UMass Memorial Health job posting.

Mobile Integrated Health, also known as community paramedicine, provides on-demand home care for urgent and chronic health concerns. Paramedics assess patients, conduct tests and consult with physicians through telehealth to determine whether patients can be treated at home or need hospital transportation, according to UMass Memorial Health.

The program’s paramedics can perform X-rays, ultrasounds, laboratory studies and electrocardiograms during home visits. They can also administer treatments including IV fluids, antibiotics, other medications and breathing therapies, the health system said.

Applicants must hold Massachusetts EMT-paramedic certification, CPR and advanced cardiac life support certifications and a valid unrestricted driver’s license. The person hired must obtain Certified Community Paramedic certification within one year. UMass Memorial prefers candidates with at least three years of experience in an urban EMS system and previous Mobile Integrated Health experience.

The schedule includes 12-hour and eight-hour shifts, every other weekend and every other holiday. A signing bonus may be available, subject to confirmation during the interview process.

Those interested in applying can submit applications through the UMass Memorial Health careers website.
