Worcester Firefighters Promoted, Others Recognized For Heroic Actions
A ceremony was held to promote eight in the Worcester department and also to recognized several for their heroic actions at an October fire.

WORCESTER, MA — The Worcester Fire Department held a ceremony last week to promote eight members of the department to new positions.
The ceremony, which took place on Jan. 4 at City Hall, celebrated the following from lieutenant to captain:
- Thomas Coyle, Jr.
- Brian McGurl
The following were promoted from firefighter to lieutenant:
- Thomas Fitman
- Daniel Generelli
- Matthew Johnson
- Matthew Petty
- Harold Rodriguez
- Jesse Verdolino
Speakers includeed Mayor Joseph M. Petty, Public Safety Committee Chair Kathleen Toomey, City Manager Edward M. Augustus, Jr. and Worcester Fire Department Chief Geoffrey Gardell.
At the event, the department also recognized six members for their heroic actions at three alarm fire on Oct. 22 of last year on Pelham St. Lt. Michael Papagni, firefighters Timothy Britt and Eric Quinn of Engine 4 along with Lt. Patrick Moran, firefighters Charles White and John Callahan of Ladder 7 were presented with commendations for their exemplary efforts during extreme conditions, said Worcester Firefighters Local 1009.
