WORCESTER, MA — A Worcester emergency communications specialist took the mound at Polar Park for a special community honor.

Nicole Olson, a communications specialist with Worcester EMS and UMass Memorial LifeFlight, was recognized as a Worcester Red Sox Hometown Hero and threw a ceremonial first pitch during the team’s pregame festivities.

Worcester EMS shared a photo of the moment here.

The WooSox and Massachusetts Lottery recognize a local community member before every home game for their special efforts, according to the team’s Hometown Hero program.

Olson’s recognition highlighted her work supporting emergency medical services and critical-care transportation in the Worcester area.
