The city's outdoor fitness program will kick off at Elm Park.

WORCESTER, MA — Worcester will kick off its summer outdoor fitness program Friday with a class demonstration and remarks from local officials and partner organizations.
The kickoff of the Fitness in the Parks Summer Series is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, June 12, at Elm Park, 138 Russell St., according to the city. The program is presented by the Worcester Department of Health and Human Services and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts in partnership with the YMCA of Central Massachusetts and YWCA Central Massachusetts.
The free program begins Monday, June 15, and runs through Aug. 29, with classes offered Mondays through Saturdays in city parks. Classes include HIIT, yoga, basketball skills and drills, Zumba, calisthenics, Pilates, dance cardio and other activities.
The city’s current schedule lists 13 classes each week at seven park sites: Cristoforo Colombo Park, Crompton Park, Elm Park, Fuller Family Park, Institute Park, University Park and Winslow & Pleasant Park.
There will be no classes Jun. 19 or Jul. 4. Some classes also will be canceled Jun. 23 at Institute Park and Jul. 2 at East Park because of conflicting events.
The program is intended to give Worcester residents more opportunities for physical activity, healthy living and community building. You can register online here.
