WORCESTER, MA — El Buen Samaritano Food Program Inc. is set to open a second food pantry in Worcester this week at Lincoln Village Apartments as the nonprofit looks to meet rising needs in the neighborhood.

The new EBS Lincoln Food Pantry will open at the Victoria Center at Lincoln Village Apartments, 116 Country Club Blvd., on Wednesday. A grand opening celebration is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the pantry will continue serving residents every other Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

El Buen Samaritano said the new site was created after leadership at the Victoria Center and Lincoln Village Apartments identified a growing need among residents and families during the holiday season. The nonprofit said residents reported increased strain from higher food prices, transportation barriers, inflation and the loss of nearby supermarkets.

“That need sparked a partnership between El Buen Samaritano Food Program Inc. and Lincoln Street Realty Company/The Carabetta Companies to bring food assistance directly into the neighborhood,” according to the release.

The Worcester nonprofit has served the community for more than 30 years through food assistance, clothing, emergency support and other services, according to the release. The organization said the Lincoln Village pantry is its latest effort to expand access to food in neighborhoods facing the greatest need.

Supporters and funders for the new pantry include Greater Worcester Community Foundation, United Way of Central Massachusetts, Fallon Health and Worcester County Food Bank.

"When a community calls for help, we respond," said Mari Gonzalez, the executive director of El Buen Samaritano. "Families in this neighborhood deserve access to fresh food, compassion and support close to home. This pantry represents dignity, hope and commitment to meeting people where they are."
