WORCESTER, MA — Over a dozen new and returning Worcester elected officials will be sworn in at the city's 2020 inauguration ceremony on Jan. 2. The event will also feature the first public readings by Worcester's new poet laureate and youth poet laureate.

The inauguration reflects the winners of the November election. Mayor Joseph Petty and Councilors Morris Bergman, Khrystian King, Sarai Rivera, Kate Toomey, Gary Rosen, Sean Rose, Candy Mero-Carlson, George Russell, and Matthew Wally will all return for another term.

The only new Council member to be sworn in will be At-Large Councilor Donna Colorio, who is taking the spot held for the last 30 years by Konstantina Lukes. Colorio was a Worcester School Committee member.

On the school side, Diana Biancheria, Jack Foley, Molly McCullough, and John Manfredo will return for another term in 2020. The two new committee members to be sworn in are Laura Clancey and Tracy O'Connell Novick. Mayor Petty also serves on the school committee.

Worcester Poet Laureate Juan Matos and Youth Poet Laureate Amina Mohammad were chosen after the city opened up nominations in October. They will both read their work at the inauguration, which begins at 5:30 p.m. at Mechanics Hall, 321 Main St.
