Worcester JCC's Executive Director Retires

Executive Director Emily G. Holdstein will retire in November 2017 after 17 years at the helm.

From the Worcester JCC: The Worcester JCC announced today that Executive Director Emily G. Holdstein will retire in November 2017 after 17 years at the helm. Emily has served in the top leadership position at the Worcester JCC since November 2000. Under her guidance and the great work of the JCC staff, board and volunteers, the non-profit has thrived and grown, serving thousands of people of all ages, cultures, faiths and backgrounds.

“It has been an extraordinary pleasure and honor to work with the talented staff and board of the Worcester JCC. Together, we have expanded our programs and offerings, improved our facility, and are a larger and more robust organization than we were in 2000. We are a vibrant community serving thousands of area residents every year,” said Ms. Holdstein. “I am proud of all we have accomplished. On a personal level I am happy to be moving to the next phase of my life.”

Emily’s passion for the JCC and its commitment to providing the Worcester area with a recreational, educational and fitness hub available to everyone sparked her into action long before she became Executive Director. She enrolled her children in the JCC’s widely-recognized pre-school program and summer day camps, and became a JCC volunteer. She then served on the Board and as a member of the executive committee.

Emily is known for her business acumen honed as an executive with her family’s business – Big D Supermarkets – which was a mainstay for many years in the region. Emily and her husband James raised their three children in Worcester, after she earned her undergraduate degree from Brown University and her MBA from Columbia.

“We are incredibly grateful to Emily for the leadership and direction she has given us,” said George D. Pins, President of the JCC Board of Directors. “Thanks to her dedication and management skills, we are a remarkably larger and stronger organization than we were at the beginning of her tenure. There is no doubt that she has been a big part of our success in giving people of all ages, cultures and backgrounds from throughout our region a welcoming place to be active, healthy, and engaged.”

A search committee has been formed to select a highly qualified candidate to succeed Emily as Executive Director of the Worcester JCC. The JCC Association, the national association of JCCs, is managing the executive search. Individuals with appropriate leadership experience can submit resumes and request the job description by contacting Alan Goldberg gold@jcca.org.
