WORCESTER, MA — A Worcester man was arraigned on Monday for murder in the 2013 shooting death of a man at a Chandler Street barbershop. Eduardo Montero was ordered to be held without bail, according to the Worcester County District Attorneys office.
Montero was on the run since the 2013 shooting and was caught and arrested in the Dominican Republic, his home country, last year. He was brought back to the U.S. on Friday.
Montero was charged in the death of 30-year-old Eliezer Rivera of Worcester.
Rivera was shot in the chest about 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 1, 2013, following a confrontation at the former Fadeaway Barbershop at 52 Chandler St. Rivera was taken to a local hospital by two
men and was pronounced dead a short time later.
Montero was indicted on Aug. 12, 2015 on charges of murder, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license and possession of ammunition without an FID card.
“This arraignment is the result of a lot of hard work by a lot of people,” DA Joseph Early said.
“Credit goes to Worcester Police detectives who conducted a thorough investigation and
identified Eduardo Montero as the suspect. I want to thank authorities in the Dominican Republic
for their arrest of Mr. Montero and the U.S. Marshals in facilitating his return to face justice. I
also want to thank members of my staff for their efforts in the lengthy extradition process.”
