Worcester Man Shot Victim In Back During Morning Robbery: Police

Worcester police have arrested a 23-year-old after a robbery on Sunday in Main South.

WORCESTER, MA — Worcester police have arrested a 23-year-old man after a daylight robbery and shooting Sunday morning in the Main South neighborhood.

Around 10 a.m. Sunday, a Worcester officer heard gunshots near the intersection of Main and King streets. Nearby, he found the 39-year-old victim with a gunshot wound to the back. Police provided first aid until an ambulance arrived, and the victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

According to Worcester police, Seamus Carey, of Providence Street, approached the victim holding a gun and demanded the victim hand over all his valuables. When the victim turned around to run, Carey opened fire, Worcester police said in a news release.

Carey was arrested Monday night on charges of armed robbery, armed assault with intent to murder, and multiple gun charges.
