WORCESTER, MA — A Worcester man who dealt heroin and fentanyl in the parking lot of his office will go to federal prison for a year, according to prosecutors.

Freiber Betancourth, 30, was sentenced this week to one year and one day in prison, plus three years of supervised release. He pleaded guilty last June to one count each of conspiring to distribute fentanyl and heroin and distributing fentanyl and heroin, prosecutors said.

According to prosecutors, Betancourth was buying drugs from Albeiro Gomez, also a Worcester resident. Gomez was indicted last year for selling bulk heroin and fentanyl in the Worcester area. Gomez would travel to New York City to pick up the drugs, prosecutors said.

Betancourth would sell drugs in the parking lot outside his Auburn office, where he worked for a MassDOT EZ Pass contractor. Betancourth also stored the drugs in his office space, prosecutors said.

Gomez pleaded guilty in November to drug distribution charges. He will be sentenced on March 5.
