Worcester Middle Schoolers Selected For Prestigious WooSox Scholarships
Four Worcester students earned $10K WooSox scholarships, while four others received $1K fellowships.

WORCESTER, MA — Several Worcester middle schoolers have been awarded scholarships through the WooSox Foundation after being selected from more than 1,700 Worcester Public Schools eighth graders who applied citywide.
The students, Jainiemar Torres-Morales of Burncoat Middle School and Prince Martinez-Carlos, Dieunayson Georges and Brielle Nyame-Addo of Worcester East Middle School, were named members of the WooSox Scholars Class of 2026.
In addition, Gloria Zuzi and Maria Perez-Hernandez of Burncoat Middle School, along with Chrissy Grant and King Asante of Worcester East Middle School, were named WooSox Foundation Fellows and awarded $1,000 scholarships.

“We are so proud of these students for standing out among the entire city,” Worcester Public Schools said in a statement.
Worcester Public Schools faculty narrowed the original applicant pool of more than 1,700 students down to 86 semifinalists, according to the WooSox Foundation. A committee then selected 18 finalists before choosing the four WooSox Scholars following interviews.

The scholarship funds will be paid directly to students’ colleges for tuition and books, provided recipients maintain strong academic performance and citizenship.
An induction ceremony honoring the students will take place on June 6 at Polar Park before the Worcester Red Sox face the Buffalo Bisons.
Since its launch in 2021, the WooSox Scholars program has awarded $240,000 in scholarships to 24 students, according to the organization.
