WORCESTER, MA — A Worcester pizza shop got a favorable review from one of the internet’s best-known pizza critics during a celebrity-filled weekend in the city.

Dave Portnoy, the Barstool Sports founder behind the “One Bite” pizza review series, gave Newton Square Pizza a 7.5 rating after visiting the Pleasant Street restaurant while he was in Worcester for Drake Maye’s celebrity softball event at Polar Park.

“Better than I thought it was gonna be,” Portnoy said in the review. “Light, tasty, I mean as good as you can make it with this type of oven for me.”

Portnoy noted the restaurant used a conveyor belt pizza oven, but said the pizza was “surprising” and “way lighter than it looks” before giving the score.

Newton Square Pizza is located at 712 A Pleasant St. and offers specialty pizzas, sandwiches, wings and pickup and delivery ordering, according to the restaurant’s website.

Portnoy was among the celebrities who took part in the inaugural MayeDay Family Foundation Celebrity Softball Classic at Polar Park.

The event, hosted by Patriots quarterback Drake Maye and his wife Ann Michael Maye, raised money for Boston Children’s Hospital and other organizations.
