Worcester Police Chase Down Man Wanted On Warrant

The man hopped a fence and kicked police away from him on his way over.

WORCESTER, MA — Worcester police chased a man through the city streets on Tuesday after he ran away from them as they tried to serve him a warrant. Police eventually caught and arrested the man, identified as Daquan Campbell, 20, of Worcester.

Worcester police in the gang unit were on patrol on Hawley Street when they spotted Campbell, who they recognized as having an open warrant. When they approached him to talk, Campbell broke out into a full sprint, police said.

The officers quickly followed him, chasing him toward Austin Street and over several fences and around the neighborhood, police said. At one point, an officer grabbed Campbell while he was hopping a fence, but Campbell kicked the officer off of him and kept going, police said.

During the chase, officers noticed Campbell chucked something under a car and continued running past it. The eventually caught up with Campbell and arrested him on Merrick Street. When police went back to see what he threw, they found a black and silver handgun — police said Campbell does not have a gun license.

Campbell is charged with Carrying a Firearm without a License, Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card, Disorderly Conduct, Malicious Destruction of Property Under $250, and the warrant.
