Worcester Police Close Route 20 After Accident
An SUV hit a piece of heavy equipment, the road has been closed for investigation.
WORCESTER, MA- Worcester EMS warned residents to steer clear of the Southwest Cutoff, Route 20, after an accident involving one car and a piece of heavy equipment.
According to Worcester police, an SUV hit a large steel plate being carried by a front-end loader construction vehicle. The force of the crash sent the SUV into the eastbound lane.
The driver, a 46-year-old Rutland man, had to be rescued from the car "by mechanical means" and suffered serious injuries. According to police he was bleeding heavily on scene and taken to an area hospital.
The driver of the construction vehicle was not injured
The Worcester Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the incident.
