Worcester Police K9 Recognized For Sniffing Out Gun
K9 Mattis was recognized by the department as the k9 of the month.

WORCESTER, MA — What has two paws and was recognized by the Worcester Police Department this month? K9 Mattis of the Worcester PD. The department honored Mattis by naming him K9 of the month. Mattis has been with the department for about a year and has proved to be a good boy on and off duty.
The honor comes after Mattis helped sniff out a gun that was used to shoot a 16-year-old in the city. Mattis is trained and certified in Patrol and Explosive/Gun Detection.
In Aug. 16 K9 Mattis and other officers were investigating a shooting on Park Avenue that left a 16-year-old with a leg injury. During the investigation, police arrested . different 16-year-old in connection with the shooting. Police said K9 Mattis performed an article search and alerted his handler to thick brush near a fence where a black revolver was found.
Thanks to K9 Mattis, the teen was charged with charged with Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (Firearm), Unlawful Carry of a Firearm and Use of Firearm in Commission of a Felony.
