
WORCESTER, MA- Worcester police are helping battle the opioid epidemic by making sure residents have are equip to stop an overdose if they see one happen.
At 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26 the department will host a free Narcan training seminar. The event is open to the public and will teach participants how to spot signs of an overdose, how Narcan works and where you can get it and how to administer it.
Opioid related deaths have decreased in the city in recent years but still remain high with 79 opioid related deaths happening in 2017 according to state statistics.
Narcan is a nasal spray that reverses the affects of an overdose and temporarily puts the victim through withdrawal. Narcan can be administered by anyone but it is important to call an ambulance after giving a dose as it is only a temporary solution.
