Worcester Polytechnic PhD Students Receive Global Awards
This is the third year in a row that PhD student from Worcester Polytechnic Institute earned funding awards for global scholarships.
WORCESTER, MA — PhD students at Worcester's Polytechnic Institute (WPI) are receiving funding awards for global scholarship opportunities. This the third year in a row students have earned this type of funding. The PhD Global Research Experience Award offers students the opportunity to engage with an international collaborator in a research project that is complementary to the PhD work.
This year, ten students applied for the grants and five received them, according to WPI. One of the recipients is Paulo Carvalho who works in the AIM Lab with Gregory Fischer where he designs MRI-compatible surgical robots. Carvalho will spend three months at the STEM-based ETH University in Zurich, Switzerland.
Another recipient, Jaya Cromwell, will travel to the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom to continue her studies on the degradation of organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs).
