WORCESTER, MA — Now that Massachusetts is in phase 2 of the post-coronavirus reopening plan, Worcester officials are beginning to open some outdoor facilities that were closed during the pandemic.

On Tuesday, officials said that the putting green and driving range at the Green Hill Park golf course had reopened, and the golf course's restaurant had reopened for outdoor dining. The city has also turned on water at Hope Cemetery, and is allowing organized sports leagues to request permission to use athletic fields.

Some facilities are still closed, including playgrounds and restrooms, Green Hill Farm, all basketball and handball courts, and the skate park at Worcester Technical High School. City beaches, polls, and spray parks are set to open on July 1.

Worcester is also reopening the bulk waste drop off center, 1065 Millbury St., on June 13. Residents have to schedule appointments by calling 508-929-1300 before making a drop off.

Worcester's coronavirus case count topped 5,000 over the weekend and was up to 5,038 by Tuesday. But cases have been growing much more slowly in recent weeks. The city has only added 167 cases since June 2 (656 cases were added to the total on June 3 due to an error in getting data from state officials). During the height of the pandemic, Worcester was adding as many as 100 or more cases per day.
